Health Literacy Strategy 1
Collaborate with other health care organizations, government agencies, and community based organizations to increase public awareness and education around health literacy and health system navigation, using best practice approaches
Activity 1: Educate on top 5 health conditions that present in ED
A Webinar has been scheduled for Jan 17th to discuss among Wards 5,7 and 8 Congregations Health Ministers the following overarching topics 1) How do you define health literacy? 2) What do you do in your church/health ministry when someone comes to you looking for information about primary care and they don’t have health insurance?

Activity 2: Educate consumers on how to access and utilize health insurance
A Webinar has been scheduled for Jan 17th to discuss among Wards 5,7 and 8 Congregations Health Ministers the following overarching topics 1) How do you define health literacy? 2) What do you do in your church/health ministry when someone comes to you looking for information about primary care and they don’t have health insurance?

Activity 3: Educate on health insurance, medical specialties, and available resources
AA Webinar has been scheduled for Jan 17th to discuss among Wards 5,7 and 8 Congregations Health Ministers the following overarching topics 1) How do you define health literacy? 2) What do you do in your church/health ministry when someone comes to you looking for information about primary care and they don’t have health insurance? 3) Next steps/action items will be decided to expand info to larger congregation within each faith institution

Pilot internal system changes to improve health literacy
Activity 1: Develop health literacy questions for providers to assess a patient’s health literacy at a federally qualified health centers and hospitals

Activity 2: Train federally qualified health centers and hospital staff on best health literacy strategies
1) Asthma and Allergy Network upcoming Community Health Worker (CHW) Training shared 2) Ongoing-Children's Hospital committee on internal HL screening & response improvement

Activity 3: Evaluate questions and training, and disseminate findings
"Basecamp" set up and shared through DC Health to gather and communicate best practices/next steps in regards to CHW health literacy-focused trainings/core competencies/standardization
